![]() January 21, 2016 Spencer, LA – A man lost his life early this morning after losing control of his vehicle in Union Parish. Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on January 21, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Hwy 143 just north of Spencer, LA. This crash took the life of 21-year-old Benjamin Thomas of Sterlington, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed Thomas was driving a 1995 GMC pickup truck south on LA 143. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and the driver overcorrected. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes and began to rollover. Due to the driver not being restrained, he was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. In 2016, Troop F has investigated 1 fatal crash resulting in 1 death.
