• Cosby's own admission of sexual contact on the accuser, in a recent deposition under oath, if accepted into evidence, is the "fatal blow". • The charge is considered a 1st-Degree felony • The statute calls for as many as ten years in prison, if convicted • Based on Actor's Age, this could possibly be a "life" sentence • Charge stems from 2004 charge in PA case of alleged assault at the home of the accused. • The twelve-year statute of limitations was due to expire this week • 10 years ago, case not filed due to "insufficient evidence; New evidence, recently found in recent deposition, support charge • He is expected to be able to bond out following today's arraignment • It remains to be seen is this charge can lead to criminal charges from the volume of dozens of other accusers through the years • Mr. Cosby remains innocent, until proven guilty in a court of law • UPDATE (1:15pm//12-30-15): Arraignment performed. Lasting less than 15 minutes. • 3PM (ET): Mr. Cosby booked in the local police station, posted $1M bond (10%), and is released to return home. Preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 14, 2016. |

Black People and Mental Health Stigma
We’ll never get better, until we get ‘Better!’
In our community stigma paralyzes us, and steals from us much-needed, intervention, action, and assistance from coming into service in our lives. How often, in the church for example, have we heard whispers of words such as “The AIDS,” “The SUGAR,” “Pregnant,” and others? Most significant is the taboo of mental illness.
We shy away from having open discourse concerning one of the most damning afflictions affecting black people. Largely because we refuse to speak on it. Hurt people, HURT people! I have observed that many times people are aware that this person, or that person, isn’t quite “right,” and giggle about them among ourselves (and behind their back), seldom offering a hand of encouragement, understanding, or facilitation of finding professional assistance... #BlackMentalHealthMatters! |
