SCOTUS analyst: Loretta Lynch ‘most likely candidate’ to replace Scalia

By Corky Siemaszko
A leading Supreme Court analyst thinks Attorney General Loretta Lynch is the “most likely candidate” to replace the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia.
Tom Goldstein, who runs the influential SCOTUSblog, had earlier predicted Ninth Circuit Judge Paul Watford would make the top of President Obama’s short list. But in a revised blog post, Goldstein said he now believes Lynch is the leading contender.
Lynch is a “very serious possibility,” Goldstein wrote. “The fact that Lynch was vetted so recently for attorney general also makes it practical for the president to nominate her in relatively short order.” MORE

City-Owned Denton Cemetery Remains ‘Whites Only’ As Council Member Seeks To Remove Deed Restriction
Some may find it hard to believe that even though we are in the year 2016, a cemetery in the city of Denton, Texas, still has a “whites only” deed restriction. Several council members are now seeking to remove the decades-old deed restriction that bars blacks from being buried in the city-controlled cemetery, USA Today said in a recent report. #BlackHistoryMonth"JOHN HANSON: The First Black President... & Moor"![]() There is an ongoing dispute as to whether, or not, John Hanson, a black man (a Moor), was the first President of the United States, as such.
The technical aspects of the matter refer to Hanson’s leadership as President of the Continental Congress, which pre-dated the formation of the US Constitution, and the formal definition of the role, “President”. In a feature about his death, on History.com, they state: “Named a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1779, Hanson served in that body from 1780 to 1782, including a term as the president of Congress (a position similar to that of prime minister in the British Parliament) from 1781 to 1782, during which time the Articles of Confederation were finally ratified and General George Washington defeated the British army at Yorktown, Virginia. Upon the ratification of the Articles on March 1, 1781, the Continental Congress became the “Congress of the Confederation” or the “United States in Congress Assembled.” Hanson was the first president of that body, but not of the United States.” CONTINUE #WOMENSHEARTHEALTH |
