Child Safety Seat Event Planned For Benton Pre-SchoolBenton, LA- Louisiana State Police Troop G is planning to conduct a free child passenger safety seat check-up event on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 08:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Benton Pre-School and Childcare, 183 Burt Blvd., Benton, Louisiana 71006 (Across from Bossier Court House).
It is a proven fact that car seats and booster seats save lives. These devices offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. However, approximately 3 out of 4 child seats are not used correctly. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children’s weights and heights, and the vast array of vehicles in today’s market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status... MORE |
Increasingly Affluent, Educated and Diverse: African-American Consumers – the Untold Story
Nielsen recently published its award-winning report, Increasingly Affluent, Educated and Diverse: African-American Consumers – the Untold Story which explores the economic evolution of upper-income Black Americans.
The influence and growth of this community can be attributed to the surge in Black immigration from the Caribbean, Africa and some European countries. In fact, the number of foreign-born Blacks in the U.S. has quadrupled since 1980, accounting for 3.8 million of the nation’s current population. Even more intriguing is the fact that foreign-born Blacks report substantially higher incomes – about 30 percent higher – than U.S.-born Blacks. Other interesting statistics about this group include:... MORE |
New push to keep seniors in home, community-based programsCHICAGO (AP) — The federal government is pushing states to keep more low-income seniors out of nursing homes and, instead, enroll them in home and community-based programs.
The shift comes as demand for long-term care is rising. By 2050, the number of people older than 85 is expected to triple to more than 18 million. These seniors tend to have the highest disability rate and the greatest need for long-term care. The tug-of-war between rising demand and controlling costs has advocates for seniors worrying about quality of care. Medicaid is one of the largest expenses for states, and a it's a program they look to for savings when budgets are tight. Medicaid spending on long-term care for seniors rose by 4 percent, to nearly ... MORE |

Racism Litmus Test: Caught on Video
Anti-Racism Activist & Educator, Jane Elliot, Speaks To White Citizens On Receiving The Same Treatment As Black Citizens
"I want every white person in this room, who would be happy to be treated as this society in general treats our citizens, our black citizens. If you as a white person would be happy to receive the same treatment that our black citizens do in this society - please stand!
"You didn't understand the directions. If you white folks want to be treated the way blacks are in this society - stand! - Nobody is standing here. That says very plainly that you KNOW what's happening. You KNOW you don't want it for YOU. I want to know why YOU are so willing to accept it or to ALLOW it to happen for others?" - Jane Elliot. |

Citizens Demand to Carry Their Weapons Into GOP Convention
Secret Service: “NO!”
This doesn't even begin to factor in the possibility of an ISIS terrorist attack on the arena during the convention. Without the right to protect themselves, those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks," it continued. At least that’s one perspective. |
by Marcinho Savant
Staff Writer Quicken Loans Arena is home to the upcoming Republican national convention, in Cleveland, Ohio. Last weekend, multiple online petitions circulating, demanding permission for attendees of the event days, to carry their, legally registered, concealed weapons into the venue, as a matter of concerns for self-protection in such a statistically dangerous town. The most popular appears on change.org. It contains the following statements:... MORE |
