TROOP G NEWS RELEASE
June 6, 2016

DWI Checkpoint Planned for Webster Parish

In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop G plans to conduct a DWI checkpoint on Friday, June 10, 2016, from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Webster Parish. Our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others.

Each year, on Louisiana’s highways, numerous people are killed or seriously injured in automobile crashes that involve impaired drivers. In 2015, 48% of the fatal crashes in Troop G involved impaired drivers. Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed. Drive sober or get pulled over.

To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
Support for this checkpoint is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Muhammad Ali's Funeral Procession Invites 'Anyone From the World to Say Goodbye'

DWI Checkpoint Planned for Webster Parish

On Friday, June 10, the funeral for Muhammad Ali will take place in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Notable names that are set to eulogize him are Bryant Gumbel, Billy Crystal (who once did a one-man show about "15 rounds" in the life of Muhammad Ali) and Bill Clinton.

This comes in addition to the massive outpouring we've already seen from scores of famous names who've paid their tribute to Ali through social media, including President Barack Obama. The funeral will be open to the public to pay their respects. If you can't make you, can catch the streamed version online... MORE

Trump's 'African-American' says he isn't a supporter

Gregory Cheadle, M.P.A., J.D. , the black man singled out by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a Redding, Calif., rally on Friday, said he took no offense when the billionaire urged the crowd, "Look at my African-American over here."

"I was not offended by it because he had been speaking positively about black people prior to that statement," Cheadle told NPR when reached at his home for comment over the weekend. "People around me were laughing [at the fact] that he noticed me, and everybody was happy. It was a jovial thing."

AP: Patchy reporting undercuts national hate crimes count

BOGALUSA, La. (AP) — The knock on the door, strong and quick, jolted Barbara Hicks Collins awake. It was the middle of the night. Someone must be in trouble, she thought. She flung open her front door to the shocking sight of her car engulfed in flames.

Investigators later determined someone had deliberately set fire to her Mercedes and also tried to burn down the one-story brick house she shared with her mother in this eastern Louisiana town, once known as a hotbed of Ku Klux Klan activity. Hicks Collins... MORE

Autopsy report: Prince died of accidental fentanyl overdose

Picture
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Prince died of an overdose of fentanyl, a powerful opioid painkiller that is up to 50 times more potent than heroin, autopsy results released Thursday show.

The findings confirm suspicions that opioids played a role in the death of the superstar musician, who was found dead April 21 at his Minneapolis-area estate.

It was not immediately clear whether Prince had a prescription for the drug and, if not, how he obtained it. At least one friend has said he suffered from intense knee and hip pain from many years of stage performances... MORE

President Obama, the first sitting President to do so, visiting Hiroshima, Nippon; for the purpose of acknowledging, and commemorating, the atomic, wartime, destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki--- some seventy years after the bombings which changed Japan forever.

This iconic photo of Prime Minister Shinto Abe, and President Obama on May 27, 2015 is not only proof of civil and diplomatic reconciliation, but also, 21st-century fruition of civilized cooperation in the ever-looming spectre of the horror at of the past... And the embodiment of bright future.

The moment I heard about this concert happening, I planned to write a professional, academic, artistic critique of the performance. It’s what I do. Plans make God laugh, though, because only His plans matter. There will be no critique/review in this story. So much more than just a mere concert took place last Sunday... MORE

Picture

Racial disparities in breast cancer

By Jovita Oruwari MD FACS

Cancer affects more than half a million Americans and is the second leading cause of death in the United States, exceeded only by heart disease.

It occurs when the normal orderly process of cell growth and division fail, therefore cells grow uncontrollably forming growths or tumors.

One in three Americans will get some form of cancer in their lifetime and it will account for one of every four deaths... MORE

COMMENTARY: How to go Asian
Why do black people often resist alternative medicine? Even when it works.

Picture
We are off the plantation. There is a universe of information, research, anecdotal evidence, and empirical proof that Chinese Medicine has benefits, yet most of us immediately wince, “I ain’t doin’ that!”--- instead of considering the evidence, and blazing personal proofs, and investigations. Why do we choose to be stuck on “Lock” when it comes to something new?

Afrikans, and Original (Native) Americans also have medicinal practices which pre-date Western medicine by centuries. Yet we reject anything we don’t understand, immediately. Don’t we?

According to Wikipedia, “Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM; simplified Chinese: 中医; traditional Chinese: 中醫; pinyin: Zhōngyī) is a style of traditional Asian medicine informed by modern medicine but built on a foundation of more than 2,500 years of Chinese medical practice that includes various forms of herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage (tui na), exercise (qigong), and...    MORE

Racism Litmus Test: Caught on Video

Anti-Racism Activist & Educator, Jane Elliot, Speaks To White Citizens On Receiving The Same Treatment As Black Citizens

Cosby to be tried on all charges
Judge has announced that Bill Cosby will be tried on all of the criminals charges that have been brought against him. They will now go to trial.  "I want every white person in this room, who would be happy to be treated as this society in general treats our citizens, our black citizens. If you as a white person would be happy to receive the same treatment that our black citizens do in this society - please stand!

"You didn't understand the directions. If you white folks want to be treated the way blacks are in this society - stand! - Nobody is standing here. That says very plainly that you KNOW what's happening. You KNOW you don't want it for YOU. I want to know why YOU are so willing to accept it or to ALLOW it to happen for others?" - Jane Elliot.
